About

The Society

This site is overseen and produced by the Colgate University Spanish Language Debate Society (SLDS). It contains news and updates on the Society’s activities as well as general resources for Worlds-style debating tournaments.

We compete internationally in Spanish as a native language and Spanish as a second language.  Any Colgate University student with an interest in Spanish language debate is welcome to join the Society. We practice in Lathrop 002 on Tuesdays from 5:00-8:00 pm EST, and Thursdays from 4:00-6:00 pm EST. We are also interested in doing Skype practice and training sessions.  So, no matter where you are in the world, you may participate!

Please contact us if you’re interested!

President: Federico Elizondo

Some Background

Although SLDS was officially recognized as a Colgate University club in November, 2014, the team’s first competition was in August 2012 at CMUDE in Santiago, Chile. Last year, the team competed at the CMUDE 2014 tournament in Mexico City where they advanced to the SSL Final Round.

This year, CMUDE  is in Bogota, Columbia!

2014 Pan Ams

In January 2014 Colgate’s team competed its first Pan American Championships at the University of Miami. Wendy Hernandez ’14 and Stella Yoh ’14 broke into the semifinals. Considering that the Pan Am was their first tournament, this was a major accomplishment.  Congratulations forever!
